Growing up by the sea in Duncannon, Co. Wexford, Debbie began painting at an early age and at sixteen won the Wexford Proloco Adult Art Competition before going on to attend Waterford RTC where she studied graphic art.

Although her primary interest was in fine art and painting, the need to earn a living led to a ten-year stint in commercial art in London. Her sense of colour and design, her flair for the telling image, led to her appointment as head graphic design consultant in London’s Jevons Brown. Still continuing to paint in her spare time, her paintings were hung in Covent Garden Galleries and the Camden Art Centre.

Despite her success, Debbie gave up commercial art to return to her first love, painting. She moved back to Ireland and is now a full time artist and after a hugely successful solo show at The Cockleshell Arts Centre in Wexford in 2004, this year has seen her participate in shows at several venues including The Tramyard in Dalkey, Gormley’s Fine Art, The Private Collector Gallery in Cork and The Mill Gallery in Celbridge.

Ending one of her busiest year's to date Debbie Chapman recently launched a solo exhibition at Cocoon in Dublin that subsequently ran from the 28th November until the 4th December. To coincide with this, her work was also shown as part of the Blue Leaf Gallery Group Exhibition preview at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce on the 24th November.
